HONOURED GUESTS?

Training Day to reach Internationals

Saturday 28th February 2009, in the church hall at St Matthew's Church, St Matthew's Street.  The main training part of the day will last from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm,  but we are also planning an international ceilidh in the evening, partly for the fun of it, and partly  also as a training event, so that a few more local Christians can get experience in calling such dances.

The keynote speaker will be Dave Pepper, the new National Director of Friends International.

SEMINAR CHOICES ? Kairos Training Day ? 28th Feb 2009 ? St Matthew’s Church Hall

Please choose one seminar in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Please also indicate if you are interested in the training to call international folk dancing ? ideally you will need to receive some information in advance for this.

If you sign up by email in advance, you can be pretty sure of getting your first choice.  If you sign up on the day, you may find that your first choice is already full.  But there are plenty of other excellent seminars to choose from.

11.30         ? 12.30

·               China Insights ? the impact of understanding culture on serving the Chinese                During this session we are going to work through each clause of the Lord's Prayer.         By the end, not only will we be clearer on how to pray for God's work amongst Chinese, we'll also hopefully have gleaned lots of insight on sino-specific issues that really ought to impact our ministry to Chinese.

-          Seminar leader: Henry Eatock-Taylor

·               Why Christian attitudes to Muslims must change                                                  To some what this title says is obvious The biblical basis would be the story in John 4 about
John 4 - Jesus and the "Muslim" woman, and how the disciples attitudes to the Samaritans    of their day had to change. This seminar aims to challenge any prejudices/ wrong attitudes   that may deter Christians from effectively reaching out to Muslims.

-           Seminar leaders: Stuart & Sue Anderson

·        Starting and maintaining an International Women’s Group                                              Insights from the experience of many years of leading such a group: what is most  helpful in keeping a group alive and effective

-          Seminar leader: Debbie Hardyman

·        Ideas for international student ministry in your church                                                         There are many international students outside our churches, and maybe quite a few in them.  This seminar will look enthusiastically at ways that churches can move forward in developing attitudes and approaches to ministry among this group of people.

-          Seminar leader: Andrew Muwowo

1.30 ? 2.30 pm

·        Preparing students for their return home                                                                                 How does a student’s experience of Bible study, church life and wider Christian fellowship relate to the realities of life once they return to their home country?  Too often these do not address the issues in a way that equips them for life in a very different culture and context.   This seminar will look at how we can learn to be more effective in this.

-          Seminar leader: Andrew Muwowo

·        "From the weather to Christ”                                                                                                      Do you ever struggle to talk naturally about your faith and Jesus ?   Ever missed an opportunity ?   In this seminar we'll be thinking together about how to move from general chitchat to talking about Jesus, and consider some other first steps in relating to international students.

-          Seminar leader: Kirsten Wynn

·                Building bridges with Muslims in Cambridge
Less of a seminar and more of a workshop to pull together those who already have a compassion and heart to meet Muslims - sharing what practically works well, and how we can perhaps better network and pray for each other.

-           Seminar leaders: Stuart & Sue Anderson

·        Leading 1-1 Bible study with international students                                                              Never thought of offering this?  But could you maybe do this?  This seminar cannot hope to equip you to be the perfect 1-1 Bible study leader, but it could help to set you on the way.

-          Seminar leader: Bartow Wylie

6.00 pm

·         How to call international dancing                                                                                       Please register in advance for this session.  We will look at some of the practicalities and approaches to calling dances ? why we do this and what we hope to achieve as dance callers.  In the evening there will be a ceilidh (not actually all Scottish dances) where you will have the chance to call a dance you have prepared in advance.
