“For such a time as this” ? International Mission in Cambridge
A Conference for Church Leaders
Thursday 4th March 2010, Henry Martyn Hall, 24 Market Street, Cambridge CB2 3NZ
Dear Colleague,
You are warmly encouraged to participate in this Conference. It will be an interactive event, held most appropriately at the Henry Martyn Hall. Henry Martyn was a pioneer missionary scholar and the Hall is a designated meeting place for prayer, information, challenge and celebration concerning world mission.
The conference is being arranged and led by Kairos Trust in association with Friends International. Kairos Trust has been working amongst international students in Cambridge for over 30 years, and Friends International, the national lead agency on evangelism to international students, celebrates its 25th birthday next year. Kairos Trust and Friends International are due to merge on 1st January 2010; this event will be an important step in strengthening the new partnership between us.
Working with local churches, our vision is to win visiting international students for Christ and equip them to minister and witness in their home country and beyond. The main objective for this event therefore is to strengthen the partnership with Cambridge churches in fulfilling this vision by:
· Building a greater understanding of the world context and strategic opportunities in Cambridge
· Encouraging churches in their responses to these opportunities
· Identifying further ways that Kairos Trust / Friends International can provide support
The following experienced speakers will be leading the sessions:
Richard Weston: Served for 10 years as National Director of Friends International, developing mission to international people in many towns and cities across the UK; remaining a Friends International Associate but linked with the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelisation, he looks forward to developing international student ministry in relevant countries.
Dr Cathy Ross: Manager of the Crowther Centre for Mission Education at the Church Mission Society in Oxford, and JV Taylor Fellow in Missiology at Regent's Park College and Wycliffe Hall, Oxford
Dave Pepper: Became National Director of Friends International earlier this year; before this Dave was CEO of Christian Youth Ministries which works amongst young people in the Ipswich area
Bartow Wylie: Bartow has been the Senior Staff Worker for Kairos Trust in Cambridge for 20 years, during which time the work has seen very significant growth and development.
The agenda is below. There is no charge for the event, but there will be an opportunity to contribute to the cost of the lunch. We look forward to seeing you ? please reply using the slip below.
This invitation has been sent to the senior leaders of churches and other organisations involved in international mission to visitors to Cambridge. Other leaders with relevant responsibilities have also been invited but if any may have been overlooked please share this invitation with them ? we would be delighted to welcome them together with you. Finally please join us in praying that through all this we would seek and follow God’s sovereign will and purposes as we work to make Jesus known in Cambridge and the world.
Every blessing
Chris Jenkin, Chair, Kairos Trust
